Your Horse's New Pal

Equine massage and structural integration for comfort, mobility, and more balanced movement.

Meet Cal

Taking care of the horses that take care of us.

Cal Bulmash has worked with horses for 25 years — as a working student in an English show jumping barn, a trail guide in the canyon lands of Utah, and an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School, packing students through Wyoming’s Absaroka mountains.

Now based in Kentucky, Cal brings that experience to horses in discomfort. Every session starts with trust. Cal gets to know the individual animal first, then works with the patterns of tension shaping how that horse stands and moves.

Comfort, mobility, and more balanced movement — shaped by the horse in front of Cal, not a rigid routine.

More than massage.

Structural integration is whole-body work. Cal engages fascia — the connective tissue around muscle, organ, and bone — instead of chasing a single sore spot.

Sessions built on consent

Every session is a conversation. Cal reads posture, breath, expression, and the horse’s changing responses. Bodywork is a partnership, not something done to the horse.

The five-session series

Holding patterns are layered. A 5-session series over about 10 weeks lets Cal release compensatory holdings and gives the horse time to own the new range of motion.

Who's it for

Young horses in training, performance athletes, working horses, seniors, and retirees. If the horse is in a body, they can benefit from feeling more comfortable and balanced in it.

Training & Credentials

Certified Large Animal Massage Therapist (LAMT). Certified Equine Structural Integration Practitioner (CESIP). NBCAAM Certified Practitioner.

What owners notice

Freer, more balanced movement. Less muscular and fascial tension. More willingness after work, travel, or stress. Horses that start asking for the work.

What clients are saying

“My horse was extremely touchy and sensitive about bodywork at first… Through Cal’s patient approach, they gained my horse’s trust over several sessions. My horse now relaxes and genuinely enjoys his bodywork appointments.”

Macy Godman

“After each session, my gelding’s gait and comfort had improved significantly — he would literally wait at the arena gate for his turn with Cal!”

Paisley Nara

“Cal works to develop good communication with each horse and encourages them to try new and healthier ways of moving so the changes are long-lasting and effective. Cal is an integral part of our soundness team.”

Joe Coates

“Even the more anxious and troubled horses quickly learned to trust them and really participated in the bodywork. My client horses are feeling and moving more freely and symmetrically each time Cal works on them.”

Annemieke Buis, Sage Knoll Farm

“When we first started working with Cal, my horse was unsure and resistant to bodywork… My horse has become more aware of his body and now accepts bodywork at liberty.”

Kendall Neueiser

“My horses perform so much more willingly since Cal has been seeing them! They just feel better physically and mentally.”

Faye Morris

“We started the series in August, and by September, I no longer needed to use Bute. By the end of October, Joe was back to crow hopping and squealing. I can’t thank Cal enough for returning my independent thinking horse to me.”

Fred Michelle Pete

“Cal took the time to really get to know my mare and made sure she felt safe every step of the way. Since working with Cal, she’s more comfortable in her own body and is unlearning years of trauma — Cal is a truly skilled horseperson.”
